There’s no doubt about it. Choupette Lagerfeld (as in Karl Lagerfeld’s fashionable feline) has the whole cute kitty thing down. even Tabs, as much as he would like to, can’t deny it. Those bright blue eyes, that plush, snowy white coat, and those killer ear tufts…

How freakin’ cute is this collection!? When I see Choupette’s sweet face on the packaging, I’m compelled to squeal, “SHU-PETTE!” much to my kitty overlord’s chagrin.

The collection purrs with pieces for eyes, cheeks, face, lips and nails, as well as a smattering of other Choupette-themed beauty accessories, like flirty false lashes, a lash curler, a brush set and a luxe makeup trunk (not shown in these pics).

It’s catnip for cat ladies!

To my cat-loving eye, the star of the collection is the Shupette Has-It-All Eye & Lip Palette, with its mix of cool-toned blue, gray, pink and berry on the left, and its warm gold, bronze, pink, orange and coral on the right. I feel like there’s something for everyone in this palette, and to top it off, you also get a fuzzy white makeup bag.

I’m actually wearing the Has-It-All palette in the pics below. For a shimmering, smokey blue cat eye, I blended the blue, gray and black shades on my lids, then lined my lash lines with Eye-Need-Shu liner in Midnight Black (a deep black with blue pearl), before adding a dash of glitter from the My precious glitter set in the inner corners.

To finish the look, I dabbed the Silk cushion Cheek palette in Orange on my cheeks and brushed the Has-It-All Palette’s bright pink lipstick on my lips.

Maybelline’s $10 The Blushed Nudes Palette
On the drive to the NKOTB/TLC/Nelly concert in San Jose last week, my friend and fellow makeup lover Marisol asked if I would mind us making a pit stop at a Walmart down there to see if they had Maybelline’s new $10 The Blushed Nudes Palette.

She said that she’d looked all over for it up in the North Bay where we live to no avail, and that the closest place she could track it down was the Walmart right next to the concert venue.

With a $10 dupe for naked 3 on the line, shirtless Jordan Knight would just have to wait, LOL!

When we got to the Walmart, we made a beeline for the beauty department, where we found two Blushed nude palettes in stock. I took it as a sign from the makeup gods that I needed to bring one of them home, and Marisol did too. She snagged the other one.

Forget about buying an overpriced new kids t-shirt at the concert. This would be my souvenir instead.

With the rose gold packaging and 12 eyeshadows in rose gold shades, The Blushed Nudes looks a lot like UD’s $54 naked 3 palette… Right? The resemblance is uncanny! For this one, it’s pretty easy to see where Maybelline got their inspiration.

Eyeshadow Trickery 101

But while very similar, there are some pretty big differences between the two.

Like first, the price. One is $10 and the other is $54.

That’s huge.

Second and third, the levels of pigment and shimmer. The urban Decay naked 3 shadows contain much more pigment and pearl. With them I think you definitely get more intense color and shine on your lids, but you can get there with the Maybelline Blushed Nudes eyeshadows. You just need to resort to a little makeup trickery.

Like you could…

Basically, use more. You can build up the Blushed Nudes shadows in layers, but you’re probably looking at using two or three times as many as you’d need with the Naked3s. maybe five or six total layers with the lighter shades.

Intensify the colors by applying them with a wet brush.

Use your fingers instead of a brush, so you can really apply some pressure directly on your lids.

Of course, none of this is necessary if you actually want a softer, hazier eye look. most of The Blushed Nudes shades are fairly sheer, so if that’s your agenda, your regular brushes would do you just fine.

Where are my mattes!?

And then there’s the whole matte situation… You get three matte shades — matte beige Strange, light matte pinkish taupe limit and matte purplish taupe Nooner — in urban Decay naked 3, which are very handy as transition shades.

The Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette, on the other hand, has only one matte, a sheer pinkish taupe that looks like UD’s limit (only sheerer). I tried using it as a crease color…but I wasn’t too crazy about it. I had to use hella layers (I’m talking five or six) to have it really register on my medium skin tone, and even then I still couldn’t see it very well.

It may not be an issue for paler princesses, or if mattes just aren’t your thing, but if you’re around my shade (I’m a MAC NC42) or darker, or if you’re just all about that matte crease life, it’s something to consider.

Still, with the money you save on this $10 palette, you could then spring for a couple of additional matte single shades.

What about the wear time and formula?

The wear time isn’t bad at all. These shadows last about seven or eight hours on my combo lids, and as for fallout, I only see very little.

Åh! — I do notice that with a couple of the Maybelline Blushed Nudes shades, like the dark purple shimmer in the bottom row on the far right, my eyes will water a little (but that’s a sensitivity of mine that I have with a lot of purplish and burgundy shimmery shadows), which doesn’t seem to happen when I wear naked 3.

It’s not terrible, and I can still wear them, but it’s a bit annoying.

The verdict: should ya go there?

I guess the big question here is, “Do friends let friends buy Blushed Nudes?”

Ja jeg tror det. I do think that you get better quality with the naked 3 palette and more pigment and shimmer, but The Blushed Nudes palette by Maybelline is still ganske darned bra for $ 10.

Hun sendte ganske mange av mine favoritter, som lidenskaps oransje drikkeblanding (yum), kokosnøttpudding hauppia (det er som kokosnøtt jell-o), røde kokosnøttballer og Mauna Loa Macadamia nøtter, og noen ting jeg aldri har prøvd før , som jeg er super stoked om. Seriøst, jeg kan ikke vente med å få de Hawaiian Sun Pancake Mixes (Lilikoi Passion Fruit, Ananas Coconut og Chocolate Macadamia Nut) i min tum! I love this damned thing! and I don’t give a crap if I’m wearing the same makeup that little Susie is rocking to Brianna’s ninth birthday sleepover because — and here’s the kicker — there’s a bonafide letter from hello Kitty inside the set!

Yeah, the actual kitty HERSELF.

For real though, I get the feels every time I read it, and I actually think it was written directly to me — Karen from Union City, California.

Diary, I think this set was made special for people who grew up loving hello Kitty, because, truth be told, the makeup isn’t great. I’d say it’s just a step up from the pieces in a little girl’s toy makeup set.

While pigmented, the glitter liners rub off easily, and the lipsticks, gloss and cream eyeshadows are woefully sheer.

As for the pink hair mascara, it feels smooth when I put it on but turns crusty when it dries.

Merkelig.

Nostalgia is the best thing about this set, which I can get behind, because I’ve been a fiend for hello Kitty since the ripe old age of 7.

The adorableness is strong in this one… It comes with lots of extras for fans, like a tiny plastic coin purse and nail stickers and a little HK charm and hair tie.

Something tells me that Pat McGrath probably won’t be using these products to create cutting edge runway looks backstage in Milan, but so what, right? Not everything has to be runway ready.

As a sweet, simple trip down memory lane to a time when I kept a journal with a unicorn on the front (it was my first diary ever!) and proudly carried my red hello Kitty lunchbox to school, this is pure great.

Her er det jeg hadde for brunsj i San Francisco i lørdag med min bitbror. Jeg hadde ikke sett ham om et par måneder, så jeg kjørte ut til sitt samfunn i SF for å tilfredsstille ham på et sted som heter Serpentine.

En av grunnene til at jeg valgte stedet var siden de tar brunsj reservasjoner, så vel som en stor del av steder i SF ikke, så vel som du må vente.

Parkering er også enkel i det området. Restauranten er funnet i Dogpatch Community of Portrero Hill, så vel som det er mye gate bil parkering rundt restauranten. Det er ganske flatt, så du trenger ikke å hale dine kaker opp noen form for bratte åser eller gjøre noen form for vanskelig parkering.

Hei, disse er typen ting du må tro på når du går til brunsj i SF, så vel som jeg ikke krever noen form for drama med kaffen min, så vel som pannekaker, si takk til deg ekstremt mye.

Når det gjelder pannekaker, er bokhvete pannekaker på dette stedet guddommelige. Som øynene dine ruller på baksiden av hodet ditt – det er akkurat hvor deilig.

Faktisk kunne jeg ikke velge mellom pannekaker, så vel som Huevos Rancheros … så jeg kjøpte begge. Lol!

Ja, jeg er kvinnen som steder to ordrer på brunsj. Virkelig, ting som dette er den eneste grunnen til at jeg kjører. Jeg liker ikke å måtte velge mellom salte og søte. Jeg vil ha begge.

After battling oily skin my whole life (well, considering that my teens, a lot more like), I think I’ve finally come to terms with it. For the way I see it, you just can’t win a battle against oily skin, so the sooner you realize and accept it, the better.

I mean, think about it. If you have oily skin, it indicates that your sebaceous glands produce a lot more oil than normal… Do you really think you can change the amount of sebum you produce just by applying something on top of your skin? I don’t know about you, but I personally don’t think that’s possible.

You can use products consisting of oil-absorbing ingredients that do help a little, but if you really have oily skin, nothing will keep you shine-free all day. What I try to do is use products that won’t make me oilier, which unfortunately, in my experience, is not as easy as it sounds, especially because lots of products specifically formulated for oily skin on me have opposite effects than they promise.

But luckily, after about 15 years of trial and error, I can now say that I’m finally satisfied with my skincare regimen, and today I’d like to give you a few general ideas and product recommendations that I hope may be beneficial to at least some of you.

At which point I’ll insert the normal disclaimer: I’m not a dermatologist, and all the recommendations and recommendations in this post are solely based on my personal experience. Obviously, what works for me might not work for you.

That being said, if you have oily skin and are not satisfied with your skincare, the following ideas and products might inspire you to change something in your routine that will hopefully help keep your skin under control.

Cleanse with gentle, yet effective products

I use the Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser in the morning to wash off any excess oil and dirt that have accumulated on my skin overnight
You’ve probably heard it a million times already, but I’ll tell you for the million-and-oneth: cleansing appropriately is essential to keep your skin healthy. As an oily-skinned gal, it’s crucial you find the ideal products that get rid of any excess oil without being too stripping.

The Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser fits the bill perfectly. It’s not one of those cleansers you remove your makeup with (for that I love my Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – been using it for years!), but it’s great in the morning (which is my favorite time to use it) or as a second cleanse at night.

Opt for an alcohol-free toner

The Clinique mild Clarifying lotion is alcohol-free and consists of salicylic acid, a chemical exfoliant that helps stop any blemishes

I feel like toning is probably one of the most skipped skincare steps, and I was “guilty” of that myself until not too long ago, considering that I still hadn’t found the ideal product. That’s because lots of toners consist of alcohol (especially those aimed at oily skin), which on me is one of those ingredients that cause the infamous “rebound effect”, making my skin even oilier.

If this sounds familiar, you may want to give the Clinique mild Clarifying lotion a go. It is very gentle on the skin and, thanks to salicylic acid, it also helps stop any unwelcome zits.

Hydrate with a serum and skip moisturizer (in the morning)

After years of trial and error, I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of moisturizers (even those formulated for oily skin) make me oilier. I much a lot more like the lightweight texture of serums instead, because I feel like they deliver the hydration I need without the extra stuff my skin tends to turn down (if you have oily skin, you’ll know what I mean). At the moment, I’m rotating among the Collistar Pure Actives Hyaluronic Acid Serum, the Oskia Renaissance Brightlight Intensive Pigmentation & Dark spot Serum, and the Skinceuticals Retinol 0.3 Refining night Treatment.

Since hyaluronic acid molecules have the ability to attract and maintain a lot more than 1,000 times their weight in water, the Collistar serum is a great one for a great improve of hydration.

The Oskia Renaissance Brightlight, besides delivering enough hydration for my oily skin thanks to glycerin and hyaluronic acid, has certain ingredients to target pigmentation and dullness, like vitamin C, niacinamide, arbutin and fruit enzymes.

Retinol is said to help with pigmentation, too, as well as skin-aging and enlarged pores. Plus, I’ve observed that whenever I use Skinceuticals Retinol 0.3 at night, the next day my skin gets less oily.

Use a sunscreen specifically formulated for oily skin

Most of the 30 shades are mattes, and there are also a few metallics. Not all of the shades will be available everywhere, either. some of them will only be available on the urban Decay website and at freestanding UD stores (there’s a list below).

I hope you don’t mind if I break these up into a couple of posts, because baby girl is due for lunch (a chicken-apple-sweet potato puree), and she can’t wait for mommy to finish swatching two dozen liquid lipsticks for hours (she’s actually “talking” about it right now, a.k.a. “baby talking really loudly,” and I can’t hear myself think).

The oranges and reds

She did, however, allow me to swatch the reds, and I can already tell this much about this line: they look breathtaking in pics! Like, if I just slept in a chaise lounge all day long while people snapped pictures of me, and I didn’t have to eat or drink or interact with anybody ever, my matte lip game would be SO on point.

Of this first batch here, flame (has a metallic finish) looks like a hot mess up close, with vertical lip lines galore, but somehow it still looks amazing in pics.

Pigment = YASSS

These are intensely pigmented (you don’t need to apply much), and the unscented, unflavored formula isn’t drying.

What about the wear time?

I wore shade 714 for about six hours today, by which time I’d finished two meals and two big jugs of water. I also went through several tissues filled with nasty green snot (sorry…I’m getting over a cold right now), and kissed the back of my hand roughly 50 times to simulate roughly how many times I would have normally kissed Connor, and 714 didn’t hold up well.

The color around the edge of my upper lip and in the middle area had all but disappeared. most of the color on my lower lip was still there, but it was hanging out with my lip flakes, so I’m not sold on the wear time of these yet. I don’t think they last as long as the MAC retro Mattes, but I’ll keep you posted as I keep playing with them.

What’s the take-home message so far?

Even though I don’t think these will last as long on my lips as some other liquid lipstick formulas, they look amazing in pics when they’re freshly applied. If I were wearing them and living that paparazzi life, kickin’ it with the Kardashians…

Wait — forget that. I wouldn’t want to do that. Kanye looks like a handful, and I’d be that one person in the crew continuously rolling her eyes.

But I digress…

P.S. Snakker om sanger (fra da vi snakket om Trap Queen?), Hørte jeg denne av Kelis for første gang i aldre. Jeg hadde iTunes satt til “tilfeldig”, og det kom opp mens Connor og jeg gjorde vår daglige dose mamma / baby dansetid.

Det fikk meg til å tenke på hvordan du bare vet hva du skal gjøre i livet neste gang du hører en bestemt sang.
