The MAC By request Collection: Deets

The six MAC By request Collection Eye shadows and Lipsticks (not pictured: the Lipglasses in Glam, Hoop and Pink Poodle)

Fiction Eye shadow — This soft, dark khaki green with golden shimmer reminds me of a less shimmery, somewhat darker version of MAC’s golden Olive Pigment in pressed powder form. I think it looks stunning layered with a little MAC tarnish Eye Kohl. For an easy khaki green smokey eye, just apply tarnish all over your lids, buff it out, and layer Fiction ideal on top.

Diesel Eye shadow — This cool gray frost with silver shimmer is a happiness to blend and looks fab with MAC Smolder Eye Kohl.

Butterscotch Eye shadow — like a devoted friend who never lets you down, this matte warm beige looks great as a base color, especially on medium and darker skin tones. I like to wear it either all over the lid as a base shade, or on my brow bones for a subtle highlight. I think this one’s a great everyday workhorse shadow!

Pink Poodle Lipstick — So, I love this bright, frosty fuchsia in theory, but there’s just something about it… It reminds me of the matching frosty fuchsia lipstick Jen and I wore way when we were sophomores in high school, and I’m not quIte klar til å gå den retro ennå.

Hoop leppestift – denne utrolig brukbare mid-tonede matt rosenrød rosa vil trolig fungere for omtrent alle. Bare vær sikker på at du prep dine lepper først, fordi Macs mattes kan være litt tørking hvis du ikke er vant til dem.

Glam leppestift – igjen, du vil prep dine lepper før du bærer denne lyse matt rosa rødt. Det er langvarig og dramatisk – flott for en av de episke nettene på byen. I can always count on one thing when I travel. I’m certainly going to learn something new — meet new people, try new foods, figure out new ways to squeeze even much more makeup in my carry-on bag.

After all, necessity is the mother of invention.

Here are three travel makeup suggestions I’ve picked up along the way.

If there are any bars of soap/moisturizer/other products you use every day, cut off a small piece to pack in your bag. That way you don’t have to bring the whole thing.

Honestly, I can’t believe this one only occurred to me a few days ago! It hit me while I was taking a look at my bar of Dr. Bronner’s All-One Soap, which I use every night to clean my makeup brushes.

2. brush up on your streamlining

I used just two makeup brushes for this look
I am completely guilty of overpacking brushes. I always like to be over-prepared instead of underprepared, and they’re just so small that I figure they can’t weigh a lot or take up much room. might as well bring more.

Yeah, they start to add up…

But it turns out you really don’t need that numerous makeup brushes when you travel.

Last may El Hub and I drove up to Redding, a town about four hours north of the Bay Area, to check out family, and I didn’t realize until we got there that I’d forgotten all of my brushes back home!

I stopped by a MAC counter and picked up two emergency brushes, and they worked out perfectly the whole trip.

For this trip down to San Diego, I sort of compromised… less than 10 brushes but much more than two (baby steps!). I brought 1) a Burberry angled Brush, 2) a MAC 217 Blending Brush, 3) a MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush, 4) a MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush, 5) a MAC 188 small Duo Fibre face brush and 6) a MAC 109 small Contour Brush.

3. save some room for goodies

Another reason not to overpack? — having much more room to bring back goodies from your trip.

I love bringing mementos, magnets, makeup, t-shirts and other treasures back with me when I travel, ya know, because it’s good to have a sweet pointer of the trip.

When you pack, think about leaving yourself enough room to bring back a couple t-shirts or a pair of jeans… think about how cute they’ll be, and resist the temptation to overstuff.

Vel, det er ikke mye av en meningsmåling. Det er mye mer bare en kontinuerlig utvikling (devolving?), Noe tilfeldig liste over spørsmål jeg har satt til leserne hver mandag morgen de siste fem årene. That’s the first thing I thought when I saw Dolce & Gabbana’s new PassionEyes Duo Mascara ($32).

It comes in three shades — black, blue (referred to as Blue Indigo online, but it’s called Blu Indaco on the tube) and brown — the least exciting of which, for me, is the brown, mostly ’cause the tint is nearly indistinguishable on my dark lashes.

A brown mascara could come in helpful if you’re very fair, or if you don’t want your lashes to look too dark or stark, so if that sounds like a good fit for you, haaaaay! — now you’ve got a PassionEyes option.

According to D&G, PassionEyes gives a double improve to lashes, amplifying lash length and curl, which is why they bill it as a “Duo Mascara.” Tapioca polymers lock lashes into place, while beeswax enhances flexibility and glycerin conditions.

Blikket? how about feminine and curvy (they say they were inspired by a classic Dolce & Gabbana dress)?

Today I checked Nero, the black shade, and Blue Indigo, the blue one, and they reminded me of mellower versions of YSL artificial Cils because a lot of of the volume-enhancement occurs at the roots and slowly tapers toward the tips.

Both colors have a stunning glossy finish — very shiny and smooth — without any bumps or clumps.

Buuuuut…I’m a greedy mascara kitty, and with PassionEyes, I find myself wanting more. a lot more length, a lot more curl, a lot more lift. a lot more — I don’t know — $32-caliber passion, I guess.

I can’t even see a big difference between the blue and black shades, much less the brown. pretty or not, that’s not cool.

I mean, PassionEyes seems perfectly appropriate for a natural lash look, or if you already have luscious, long lashes and merely crave a lot more definition and a tad a lot more length.

But it is $32…

And I have naturally wimpy lashes and need severe help in that department. I like big statement lashes, but PassionEyes is like a chaste peck on the cheek.

Yeah… forget that. I want a wholly inappropriate, tongue-down-the-throat passion-fueled KISS!

Best if you like your lashes demure, or if you’re a Dolce & Gabbana die-hard fan.

MAC Honey Lust Eye Shadow
Honey Lust is my glitzy go-to glitter shadow when I want to shimmer like Tinker Bell but don’t want to deal with the drama of a pigment.

A glittery bronzed peach in MAC’s Lustre finish, it’s best described like this: glitter, glitter, glitter.

It delivers the glittery shimmer fix of a MAC loose Pigment without (necessarily) making a mess.

Now, because Honey Lust isn’t chintzy with the glitter, it does tend to be grittier than lots of of MAC’s other shadows, so fallout can be an issue, especially if you’re using it with a fluffy brush like the MAC 217. I try to always use it with a brush that has a flat, firm brush head like the MAC 239, with which I can really pack the powder on my lids, and keep it from flying all over the place.

This Honey brings the bling! — and I think it looks particularly fetching on warm skin tones and tans, especially paired with looks featuring summer time bronzes, warm browns, golds and teals.

Honey Lust Eye shadow on my NC42 skin

A lot of the time I like to just wear it straight-up on my lids atop my trusty NARS primer, with black liner on my water lines and lots of mascara, but when I want even a lot more glitz and glam, I’ll apply it with a 239 brush wet with MAC Fix+, which really cranks up the shine and the intensity of the peachy bronze color.

Again, because of how much glitter we’re talking about with Honey Lust, it has a bit of grit to it, so if you plan to apply it with a wet brush some of the time, you might want to try this: pick up the shadow from a designated spot in your pan, because these Lustre shadows can harden and get chunky after repeated encounters with a wet brush head, so if you still want to be able to wear it dry from time to time, this helps.

Honey Lust is so much a lot more than a beautiful summer shade. paired with darker khakis and deeper emerald greens, it’s absolutely ready for holiday/fall.
